Irresistible Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants You Need to Try Today

Learn how to make delicious Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 package (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough (store-bought for ease)
  • 6 slices of deli ham (or leftover cooked ham, sliced thin)
  • 6 slices of Swiss cheese (or your favorite melting cheese like cheddar or Gruyère)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional, for a little tang)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash to get that golden crust)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

If you don’t have crescent roll dough on hand, puff pastry sheets work beautifully too. And if Swiss cheese isn’t your jam, feel free to swap in mozzarella or even provolone. The key is to pick a cheese that melts nicely and pairs well with ham.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. I always keep parchment on hand because it means no scrubbing later—trust me, every minute saved counts when you’re juggling kids and work.
  2. Unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 8 triangles along the perforations.
  3. If you want that little extra tang, spread about 1/2 teaspoon of Dijon mustard on each triangle. This is a trick I picked up from my mom, who could turn a can of tomatoes and a pinch of spices into something magical—here, just a hint of mustard does the same for flavor depth.
  4. Place one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on the wider end of each triangle. If the slices are too big, fold them neatly to fit.
  5. Starting at the wide end, roll each triangle up toward the point, tucking in the edges slightly as you go to keep the filling inside.
  6. Place the rolled croissants on the baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart so they have room to puff up.
  7. Brush each croissant lightly with the melted butter, then brush with the beaten egg. This combo is my secret to that golden, shiny finish that makes these croissants look bakery-worthy without the fuss.
  8. Finish with a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper for a little bite.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the croissants are puffed, golden brown, and the cheese is melted inside. Your kitchen will smell amazing, and your patience will be rewarded!
  10. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving—trust me, they’re tempting fresh out of the oven, but the cheese will be lava hot.
