Ingredients
Scale
Gathering your ingredients is the first step to creating magic in the kitchen. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk or cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
If you need to make a swap, you can substitute the blueberries with raspberries or chopped strawberries for a different fruity twist. And for a dairy-free version, almond milk and vegan butter work just as well!
Instructions
Let’s get baking! Follow these steps to create your masterpiece:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for about 5 minutes, until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Once the dough has risen, roll it out on a floured surface into a 12×9 inch rectangle.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle evenly over the buttered dough. Scatter the blueberries on top.
- Tightly roll up the dough starting from the long side, and cut into 12 even rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking pan. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
- While the rolls bake, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before drizzling the glaze over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
A little tip from my kitchen: if you’re in a rush, you can let the dough rise overnight in the fridge. In the morning, just bring it to room temperature before baking.
