Ingredients
Let’s gather everything you need to create this comforting dish. You probably already have most of these items in your pantry, but if not, they’re easy to find.
- 4 boneless pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
If you’re out of apple cider vinegar, a splash of white vinegar will do the trick. And if you’re all out of smoked paprika, regular paprika with a pinch of cayenne adds a nice kick.
Instructions
Let’s get cooking! Follow these steps, and you’ll have a mouthwatering meal ready in no time.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This ensures a nice, even cooking for the pork chops.
- In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. You want it hot enough to sear the chops but not smoking.
- Season the pork chops generously with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. Seasoning is key to bringing out the flavors.
- Place the pork chops in the skillet and sear for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they develop a nice golden crust. This helps lock in the juices.
- Remove the chops from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Add the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and soy sauce to the skillet, stirring to combine and dissolve the sugar.
- Return the pork chops to the skillet, coating them with the sauce. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
- Let the pork chops rest for a few minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the meat tender and juicy.
A little tip from my mom: when the kitchen is filled with laughter and the smell of good food, it doesn’t matter if the counters are messy. It means you’re doing it right.
