Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they become soft and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
  3. Add the balsamic vinegar, sugar, thyme, salt, and pepper to the onions. Stir well and cook for another 5 minutes until the onions are deeply caramelized and fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to smooth any creases and transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.
