Ingredients
Scale
The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients that are fresh and full of flavor. I always look for quality chicken sausage that’s lean yet flavorful, and fresh broccoli that’s crisp and bright green. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound chicken sausage, sliced
- 1 cup orzo pasta
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups chicken broth
- Salt and pepper, to taste
If you’re missing an ingredient, no worries! Swap chicken sausage with turkey sausage or broccoli with asparagus for a seasonal twist.
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced chicken sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes to the skillet, stirring for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Toss in the orzo, stirring to coat with the oil and sausage juices. Cook for 2 minutes to toast the pasta slightly.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add broccoli florets to the skillet, cover, and cook for an additional 5 minutes until orzo is tender and broccoli is bright green.
- Stir in Parmesan cheese, season with salt and pepper, and serve hot.
