Ingredients
Scale
The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients. Freshness is important, but don’t shy away from using those slightly stale croissants—they soak up the custard beautifully.
- 5–6 large croissants, preferably a day old
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Cut the croissants into large chunks and place them in the baking dish.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the croissant pieces.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and salt until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the croissants and chocolate. Gently press down to ensure everything is soaked.
- Let it sit for about 10-15 minutes to allow the croissants to absorb the custard.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
- Allow it to cool slightly before serving to let the flavors meld beautifully.
