- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons instant coffee granules
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons strong brewed coffee
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
If you’re missing a few things, don’t sweat it. Swap regular milk for any plant-based alternative, or try brown sugar instead of granulated for a deeper flavor.
Instructions
Let’s get rolling! Follow these steps to create your own batch of Coffee Cinnamon Rolls:
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it starts to foam.
- Add in sugar, melted butter, salt, egg, and instant coffee granules. Mix well to combine.
- Gradually add the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 to 1.5 hours.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle approximately 16×12 inches.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up the dough tightly from the long side and cut into 12 even pieces.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- For the icing, mix powdered sugar, brewed coffee, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls.
