Irresistibly Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken Recipe You Need to Try

Learn how to make delicious Creamy Garlic Parmesan Chicken. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 6 ounces each)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, divided
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, divided
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 teaspoons)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)
  • Substitutions: Use half-and-half instead of heavy cream for a lighter sauce, or swap Parmesan for Pecorino Romano for a slightly sharper flavor. If you don’t have chicken broth, vegetable broth works just fine.

Instructions

  1. Pat your chicken breasts dry with paper towels. Season both sides with ½ teaspoon salt and ¼ teaspoon black pepper each. I find this little step makes a huge difference in flavor and helps the chicken brown nicely.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot (you should see it shimmer), add the chicken breasts. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter to the same pan, then toss in the minced garlic. Stir frequently for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned—burnt garlic can turn bitter, and trust me, I’ve been there!
  4. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan with your wooden spoon. This is flavor gold from the seared chicken.
  5. Slowly stir in the heavy cream, followed by the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning. Keep stirring gently until the cheese melts and the sauce thickens slightly, about 3-4 minutes. If the sauce gets too thick, add a splash more broth or cream to loosen it up.
  6. Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, spooning the sauce over the top. Let them simmer in the sauce for 2-3 minutes to soak up all that garlicky, cheesy goodness.
  7. Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley over the chicken before serving for a pop of color and freshness. This step always makes me feel like I’m adding a little extra care to the meal—even on the busiest nights.
