The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients, just like my mom taught me with her can of tomatoes and a few spices. Choose fresh, quality ingredients to enhance the flavor and texture of each roll-up.
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Feel free to substitute the mozzarella with your favorite cheese or add a pinch of chili flakes for a spicy kick!
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with olive oil and set aside.
- Pound the chicken breasts to about 1/4 inch thickness. Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In a bowl, mix together the cream cheese, mozzarella, and Italian herbs until well combined.
- Spread a generous layer of the cheese mixture over each chicken breast. Roll them up tightly and secure with toothpicks.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sear the roll-ups until golden brown on all sides, about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the roll-ups to the prepared baking dish and cover with marinara sauce.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the cheese is bubbling.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
