Ingredients
Scale
Gathering your ingredients is the first step to sauce nirvana. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and chopped
- 2 habanero peppers, seeded and minced (use gloves!)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
If you can’t find fresh mangoes, feel free to substitute with frozen chunks. And if habaneros are a bit too fiery for your taste buds, jalapeños are a milder alternative. Remember, cooking at home is all about making it work for you.
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the chopped mangoes, habanero peppers, and minced garlic. Blend until smooth.
- Transfer the mixture to a medium saucepan. Stir in the honey, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Let it simmer for about 15 minutes or until it slightly thickens.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Remember, it’s okay to tweak the flavors to suit your palate. If you want more heat, add another half of a habanero!
- Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly.
- Pour the sauce into a jar or bottle for storage. It will keep in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
Every time I make this sauce, I’m reminded of my dad’s stories, and how a simple dish can bring a sense of adventure right to your kitchen.
