Ingredients
Scale
Here’s what you’ll need to make this delicious dish, with a few tips to make it your own:
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed if possible)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon orange zest
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish
- 1 green onion, sliced, for garnish
If you don’t have rice vinegar, apple cider vinegar makes a great substitute. And if you’re out of fresh orange juice, bottled will do in a pinch—remember, it’s about working with what you’ve got!
Instructions
Here’s how to bring this dish to life in your own kitchen:
- In a medium bowl, combine the cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, and ground ginger. Toss the chicken pieces in this mixture until well-coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F. Arrange the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket, cooking in batches if necessary. Cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the chicken is golden and cooked through.
- While the chicken is cooking, in a small saucepan over medium heat, combine orange juice, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and orange zest. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Once the chicken is done, transfer it to a large bowl and pour the sauce over it, tossing to coat each piece thoroughly.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.
Pro tip: If you find yourself short on time, mix the sauce ingredients in advance and store them in the fridge. That way, when dinner time rolls around, you’re halfway there!
