Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons chopped chives (optional)
Feel free to swap in turkey sausage if you’re looking to lighten things up, or add a sprinkle of red pepper flakes if you like a little heat. The beauty of this recipe is that it’s flexible—just like life in a busy household.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and roll out your pizza dough onto a lightly floured surface.
- Transfer the dough to a greased pizza pan or baking sheet.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the sausage with a slotted spoon and set it aside.
- In the same skillet, add flour to the sausage drippings and whisk for 1-2 minutes until golden.
- Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spread the gravy evenly over the pizza dough, then sprinkle the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Crack the eggs over the pizza, spacing them out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Garnish with chopped chives if desired and slice to serve.
There you have it, a breakfast that’s as hearty as it is delicious. It’s a little messy, a lot of fun, and totally worth the effort.
