Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: Red pepper flakes for a bit of heat
Feel free to swap out ingredients based on what you have on hand. Don’t have oyster sauce? Hoisin sauce works well, too. Remember, cooking at home is all about flexibility and making do with what’s available, just like my mom did when turning a can of tomatoes into something magical.
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Toss in the shrimp, cooking until they turn pink and opaque, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Add asparagus to the same skillet, stirring frequently until they are bright green and tender-crisp, about 4-5 minutes.
- Return the shrimp to the skillet, along with the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together, cooking for an additional 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- If you like a bit of heat, sprinkle in red pepper flakes to taste.
- Serve hot and enjoy the vibrant flavors that remind you of simpler times.
Cooking shrimp and asparagus is a breeze, much like those evenings spent in the kitchen with my dad, where the focus was more on sharing stories and laughter than on following a recipe to the letter.
