Savor the Flavors of Sicily with this Irresistible Sicilian Meatloaf Recipe

Learn how to make delicious Sicilian Meatloaf. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for a bit of heat)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts (optional for added texture)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, and parsley.
  3. Add the minced garlic, milk, eggs, salt, black pepper, oregano, and crushed red pepper flakes. Mix everything thoroughly using your hands. Remember, messy hands mean you’re on the right track!
  4. Mold the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it on the prepared baking sheet. If using, sprinkle the top with pine nuts for a delicious crunch.
  5. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the top of the meatloaf. This is where my mom’s magic touch would make its mark, turning simple tomato sauce into a flavorful glaze.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). The aroma will fill your kitchen, just like those evenings in my childhood home.
  7. Let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring each slice is tender and flavorful.
