Ingredients
Scale
The key to this dish lies in selecting the right ingredients. Quality matters, but don’t worry, you won’t need anything fancy—just pantry staples and a good cut of beef.
- 3–4 lbs chuck roast
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet of French onion soup mix
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
If you’re like my mom, who could whip up culinary magic with minimal ingredients, feel free to substitute fresh onion slices with dried onion flakes if that’s what you have on hand.
Instructions
- Season the chuck roast generously with salt and pepper.
- In a hot skillet, sear the roast on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side. This step is key to locking in flavor.
- Transfer the roast to your slow cooker.
- Add sliced onions, garlic, beef broth, French onion soup mix, and Worcestershire sauce to the cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
