Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or substitute with 1/2 cup milk mixed with 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice)
With these ingredients, we’re keeping it classic and uncomplicated. You might already have most of these in your pantry, and if not, they’re easy to find. The buttermilk gives these bars their tender crumb, but if you’re like me and sometimes forget to buy it, a quick milk and lemon juice mix works wonders!
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, eggs, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and buttermilk until well combined.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix—some lumps are okay!
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The bars should be golden brown and your kitchen should smell like a maple dream.
- Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
As you bake, remember: it’s all about the journey. My counters often look like a flour explosion, and that’s okay. Embrace the messiness—it’s part of the fun and the love you put into these bars.
