Ingredients
Scale
Gather around, because here’s what you need to whip up these scrumptious bars:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith work great)
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Feel free to substitute the caramel sauce with a homemade version if you’re feeling adventurous. And if oats aren’t your thing, swap them with crushed graham crackers for an equally delightful texture.
Instructions
Let’s get those aprons on and dive into the fun part—making these bars!
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and line an 8×8 inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in melted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Press half of the crumb mixture firmly into the prepared baking dish to form the crust.
- In another bowl, toss diced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and nutmeg until well-coated.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust, then drizzle with caramel sauce.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture over the top of the apples.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Allow the bars to cool in the pan before slicing into squares. This cooling step is crucial—trust me, I’ve been impatient before, and it was a (tasty) mess!
