Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and diced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese blend)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 egg, for egg wash
If you’re missing an ingredient, don’t fret! You can substitute with what you have. No cheddar? Try mozzarella for a gooier center. Out of milk? Water will work in a pinch, though creaminess will be slightly compromised. The essence of home cooking is adaptability, after all.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a muffin tin.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir to blend.
- Add the cold, diced butter. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Mix in the shredded cheese and minced garlic, ensuring even distribution.
- Pour in the milk and gently stir with a spatula until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into strips, then roll each strip into a coil to form a cruffin shape. Place each cruffin into the prepared muffin tin.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of each cruffin for a golden finish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed up. Enjoy the heavenly aroma as they bake!
