Irresistibly Soft and Chewy Snickerdoodles That Melt in Your Mouth

Learn how to make delicious Chewy snickerdoodles. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Gathering your ingredients is the first step towards cookie bliss. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • Additional 1/4 cup granulated sugar for coating

If you’re missing cream of tartar, don’t worry. A little extra baking soda can work in a pinch, though it might alter the tang just a bit.

Instructions

Follow these easy steps to make your kitchen smell like a cinnamon wonderland:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1 1/2 cups of sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup of sugar with the ground cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough into 1 1/2-inch balls, then roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until well coated.
  8. Place the cookie balls on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are just set and the centers are still soft. Remember, they’ll continue to cook slightly on the baking sheet.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Cooking with kids? Let them help with the rolling and coating—it’s a fun, messy way to get them involved, just like my dad used to do with me.
