Ingredients
Scale
Gather these simple ingredients, and you’ll be on your way to baking a loaf that brings joy to any table.
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips
If you’re missing an ingredient, no worries! You can substitute brown sugar with granulated sugar or use whole wheat flour for a healthier twist. This recipe is as flexible as my mom’s impromptu tomato creations.
Instructions
Let’s get baking! Follow these steps, and you’ll have a delicious banana bread ready in no time.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, mix the melted butter and brown sugar until well combined.
- Add the beaten eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, stirring until smooth.
- Stir in the mashed bananas until well incorporated.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, folding gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
- Fold in the optional walnuts or chocolate chips if using.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 60-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing and serving.
Like my dad’s stories, this banana bread is best enjoyed slowly, savoring each bite.
