Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of French bread
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 pound cooked shrimp, chopped
- 1/2 pound crab meat
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Feel free to substitute cream cheese with Greek yogurt for a lighter version. If you’re out of French bread, any crusty loaf will do the trick!
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice the French bread into 2-inch thick slices, then hollow out the centers to create a cavity for the filling.
- In a bowl, mix the melted butter and minced garlic, then brush this mixture over the bread slices generously.
- In another bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, crab meat, cream cheese, mayonnaise, mozzarella cheese, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Spoon the seafood mixture into the hollowed bread slices, making sure to pack it in well.
- Place the stuffed bread pieces on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Let them cool slightly before serving, as the filling will be hot.
During the baking, you’ll see the cheese bubble and the tops turn golden brown—it’s a sign that deliciousness is about to happen. Remember, cooking times can vary based on your oven’s temperament, much like my mom’s magic with spices.
