Ingredients
Scale
Let’s keep it simple and straightforward, just like my mom used to do. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 cups uncooked pasta (penne or rotini work great)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream (or substitute with whole milk for a lighter version)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh basil for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Ready to get cooking? Here’s how we bring it all together:
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the diced tomatoes, beef broth, and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Add the uncooked pasta to the skillet, ensuring it is submerged in the liquid. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- Cover the skillet and let it cook for about 12-15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the heavy cream. Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce is creamy and thick.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top. Cover the skillet again and let the cheese melt, about 2 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil if desired. Serve hot and enjoy the comforting flavors!
