Effortless Flavor Explosion with Crockpot General Tso’s Chicken

Learn how to make delicious Crockpot General Tso’s Chicken. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1.5 pounds of boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup of broccoli florets
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)

Feel free to substitute chicken breasts if you prefer them over thighs. And if spice isn’t your thing, you can reduce or omit the red pepper flakes without sacrificing flavor.

Instructions

  1. Start by placing the chicken pieces into your crockpot. This is the canvas upon which we’ll paint our flavorful masterpiece.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, cornstarch, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Pour this mixture over the chicken, ensuring it’s well coated. This is where the magic begins as the flavors meld together over time.
  3. Set your crockpot to low and let it cook for 4-5 hours, or until the chicken is tender and juicy. This is the part where you can step away and let the crockpot work its wonders while you tackle other tasks or simply take a breather.
  4. About 30 minutes before serving, add the broccoli and red bell pepper to the crockpot. Give it a gentle stir to incorporate the veggies.
  5. Once everything is cooked through, serve your Crockpot General Tso’s Chicken hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Pro tip from my kitchen to yours: if you prefer your sauce a bit thicker, remove the lid for the last 30 minutes of cooking to let some of the moisture evaporate.
