Irresistibly Flaky: Discover the Magic of Delicious Cruffins

Learn how to make delicious Delicious Cruffins. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup softened butter (for laminating dough)
  • Your choice of filling: Nutella, jam, or cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir well to combine.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a rough dough forms.
  3. Add the softened butter to the dough and knead on a floured surface for about 8 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic. If you have little helpers in the kitchen like my kids, let them join in on the fun!
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter evenly across the dough.
  6. Fold the dough into thirds, like a letter. Roll it out again and repeat the folding process two more times to create those flaky layers.
  7. Cut the dough into strips, and if you’re adding fillings like Nutella or jam, spread a thin layer on each strip before rolling them into a coil and placing them in a muffin tin.
  8. Let the cruffins rise for another 30 minutes while you preheat your oven to 375°F.
  9. Bake the cruffins for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and puffed. The smell will be enough to bring everyone to the kitchen!
  10. Allow them to cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and enjoy the layers of flaky goodness.
