Ingredients
Scale
Gathering your ingredients is a breeze. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts
If you’re out of whole milk, feel free to substitute with almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version. In the spirit of my mom’s cooking philosophy, don’t be afraid to make this recipe your own.
Instructions
Ready to bake? Follow these simple steps:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the flour mixture to ensure a smooth batter.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Sprinkle chocolate chips or nuts on top if using.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
This cake is a canvas for creativity. Feel free to add a personal touch, much like my mom did with her spices and flavors.
