Savory Indulgence: Dive into a French Onion Broccoli Cheese Casserole

Learn how to make delicious French Onion Broccoli Cheese Casserole. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup crushed French fried onions
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

You can substitute the condensed cream of mushroom soup with cream of chicken if preferred. For a lighter version, swap the sour cream with Greek yogurt.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the broccoli florets, and cook for 2-3 minutes until bright green and slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become golden and caramelized, about 10 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, cream of mushroom soup, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until well mixed.
  5. Fold in the cooked broccoli and caramelized onions into the cheese mixture. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the crushed French fried onions and Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.

Let it sit for a few minutes before diving in. Trust me, this is the hardest part, but it’s worth the wait!
