Ingredients
Scale
Let’s gather our ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need to create these comforting rolls:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Feel free to play around with the herbs based on what you have. No fresh parsley? Dried works too. It’s all about making it work for you.
Instructions
Follow these steps, and you’ll have a batch of Herb & Garlic Swirl Rolls that’ll disappear as quickly as they arrived.
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it’s foamy—this means the yeast is alive and kicking.
- Add the olive oil, salt, and flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. It’s quite the arm workout, but think of it as a moment just for yourself amidst the chaos.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the minced garlic, parsley, dill, oregano, and black pepper evenly on top.
- Tightly roll the dough from the long side into a log and slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the rolls spiral side up on the prepared baking sheet. Let them rise for another 15 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and fragrant.
