Ingredients
Scale
Gathering your ingredients is the first step to culinary success. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 cup water chestnuts, diced
- 1/4 cup green onions, sliced
- 1 head of butter lettuce, leaves separated
- Salt and pepper to taste
Substitution tip: If ground chicken isn’t your thing, you can easily swap it out for ground turkey or even tofu for a vegetarian option. The key is to keep the sauce ratio, so every bite is infused with flavor.
Instructions
Creating these wraps is as easy as pie—maybe even easier! Here’s how you do it:
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes, making sure to crumble the chicken as it cooks.
- Add the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. The smell of garlic cooking is one of my favorite kitchen aromas—it always takes me back to my mom’s quick and magical transformations in the kitchen.
- Stir in the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and ground ginger. Let the mixture simmer until the sauce has slightly thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the water chestnuts and green onions, and cook until just tender, about 1-2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Spoon a generous amount of the chicken mixture into the center of a lettuce leaf, folding the sides over as you go. Repeat the process with the remaining leaves and chicken mixture.
And there you have it! Your kitchen might be a bit messy, but the smiles at the dinner table will be worth every crumb.
