Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds chicken wings, tips removed and divided into drumettes and flats
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
- 2 green onions, chopped (optional, for garnish)
If you’re ever out of apple cider vinegar, white vinegar or rice vinegar makes a good substitute. And for a little extra heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes can do wonders!
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top. This will help the wings cook evenly and get nice and crispy.
- In a large bowl, combine the chicken wings, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Toss them until the wings are evenly coated.
- Arrange the wings in a single layer on the wire rack. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, turning halfway through, until they’re golden and crispy.
- While the wings are baking, prepare the sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Once the wings are cooked, transfer them to a large bowl. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the wings and toss them until they’re well coated.
- Return the wings to the wire rack and bake for another 5-10 minutes. This will allow the sauce to caramelize beautifully.
- Remove from the oven and let the wings cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
There you have it! A dish that’s as simple as it is satisfying. I remember the first time I made these wings, my kids were licking their fingers clean, and my husband couldn’t stop raving about them. It was one of those moments that reminded me why I love cooking at home.
