Ingredients
Scale
Here’s what you’ll need to get started with this simple, heavenly dessert:
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (about 15.25 oz)
- 1 package Oreo cookies (14.3 oz), crushed
- 1 stick unsalted butter, melted (1/2 cup)
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips (optional for extra chocolatey goodness)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional but adds a lovely depth)
Substitution Suggestions: If you’re out of Oreos, feel free to use any chocolate sandwich cookie. No sweetened condensed milk? You can substitute with a mixture of evaporated milk and sugar.
Instructions
Let’s get into the fun part—making the cake! Here’s how you do it:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Spread half of the crushed Oreos evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle the dry chocolate cake mix evenly over the crushed Oreos.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix, trying to cover as much area as possible.
- Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the cake mixture.
- Sprinkle the remaining crushed Oreos and chocolate chips on top if using.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top looks set and a little crispy. Keep an eye out for bubbling edges which means it’s ready!
- Let the cake cool for at least 10 minutes before serving to allow it to set properly.
