Perfectly Crunchy Pistachio French Toast Sticks Recipe

Learn how to make delicious Pistachio French Toast Sticks Recipe. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 8 slices of thick-cut bread (brioche or challah work great)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk (whole or your preferred variety)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup of shelled pistachios, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • Honey or maple syrup, for serving

If you’re missing an ingredient, don’t worry! You can substitute the milk with almond or oat milk, and if you’re out of pistachios, crushed almonds or pecans would also work wonders.

Instructions

  1. Start by whisking together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a shallow dish. This mixture is the heart of your French toast, offering that familiar, comforting flavor.
  2. Spread the chopped pistachios on a plate or shallow dish. This will be the crunchy coating that makes these sticks so special.
  3. Cut each slice of bread into three sticks. If the kids want to help, this is a great step for them to get involved with—just watch those fingers!
  4. Dip each stick into the egg mixture, making sure it’s well-coated, then roll it in the pistachios until generously covered.
  5. Heat a tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once melted and bubbly, add the pistachio-coated sticks in batches, careful not to overcrowd the pan.
  6. Cook each side for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. The smell will take you right back to those family breakfasts, filled with stories and laughter.
  7. Transfer the cooked sticks to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb any excess butter.
  8. Serve warm with a drizzle of honey or maple syrup, and watch them disappear!
