Ingredients
Scale
Gathering your ingredients is the first step in creating something wonderful. Here’s what you’ll need to make this delightful toast:
- 1 whole garlic bulb
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 4 large tomatoes, sliced
- 8 ounces burrata cheese
- 4 slices of rustic bread, such as sourdough or ciabatta
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
If you’re missing any of these, don’t worry! You can substitute cherry tomatoes for a sweeter touch or use mozzarella if burrata isn’t available.
Instructions
Now that you have your ingredients ready, let’s dive into the creation process. Follow these steps for a delightful meal:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice off the top of the garlic bulb to expose the cloves, drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil, and wrap it in aluminum foil. Roast for 30 minutes or until the cloves are soft and golden.
- While the garlic is roasting, lay the tomato slices on a baking sheet. Drizzle with the remaining olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Roast them alongside the garlic for the last 15 minutes of roasting time.
- Toast the bread slices to your preference. I often use the broiler for a quick, even crispiness that reminds me of those early mornings when the aroma of fresh bread filled the apartment.
- Once the garlic is cool enough to handle, squeeze out the roasted cloves and spread them over the toasted bread. Top with the roasted tomato slices.
- Tear the burrata into pieces and place them on top of the tomatoes. The creaminess of the burrata paired with the roasted flavors is a match made in culinary heaven.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and a sprinkle of salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately while the burrata is still luxuriously melted.
