Ingredients
Scale
Gather these simple ingredients to create a meal that’s both nutritious and delicious:
- 2 fresh tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds (a mix of black and white for color)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (or olive oil)
- Salt and pepper to taste
If you’re out of fresh ginger, feel free to use ground ginger as a substitute. And if you prefer a bit of heat, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
Instructions
Follow these steps to bring this flavorful dish to your table:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic to create a marinade.
- Place the tuna steaks in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring they’re well coated. Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes if you have the time.
- While the tuna marinates, spread the sesame seeds on a plate.
- Remove the tuna from the marinade, allowing any excess to drip off, and press each side into the sesame seeds to create an even crust.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tuna steaks.
- Sear each side for about 2-3 minutes, or until the sesame seeds are golden brown and the tuna is cooked to your liking. I like mine with a beautifully pink center, reminiscent of those childhood meals where simplicity was key.
- Remove from the heat and let the tuna rest for a minute before slicing.
Remember, cooking is all about finding what works for you. Don’t stress if the sesame seeds don’t stick perfectly—it’s the flavor that counts!
