Ingredients
Scale
- 14 oz udon noodles
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 green onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt, to taste
- Optional: protein of choice (shrimp, tofu, or chicken)
If you’re out of udon, don’t worry! You can substitute with any thick noodle you have on hand. And if the spice isn’t your thing, feel free to dial it down by reducing the chili flakes. Cooking is all about making it your own!
Instructions
- Begin by cooking the udon noodles according to package instructions. Once cooked, drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and chili flakes. Cook for another minute, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- Add the cooked udon noodles to the skillet, tossing them gently to coat in the sauce. This is where the magic happens, as the noodles soak up all that buttery goodness.
- Drizzle with sesame oil and toss again. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt if needed.
- Finish by sprinkling chopped green onions over the top. If you’re adding a protein, introduce it now and let it heat through.
I love to let my kids get involved here, stirring and tossing the noodles. It’s a little messy, but that’s where the fun is—those imperfect moments are what make family meals so special.
