Ingredients
To bring these meatballs to life, you’ll need a handful of straightforward ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 cup sweet chili sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For substitutions, you can swap the ground beef with ground turkey for a lighter version, or use gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed. The sweet chili sauce is the star here, but you can adjust the sweetness by playing around with the honey.
Instructions
Making these meatballs is as simple as whipping up a story with my dad. Here’s how to make them:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, whisk together sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, honey, and ginger. Set aside.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 6-8 minutes.
- Transfer the meatballs to the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until fully cooked.
- While the meatballs are baking, pour the sauce into the skillet and bring it to a simmer. Let it thicken slightly, about 3-4 minutes.
- Once the meatballs are done, toss them in the sauce until well coated. Serve hot.
A little tip from my kitchen: don’t overcrowd the skillet when browning the meatballs; give them space to develop a nice crust. It’s those little details that make a big difference.
